Here's how LANAP/Laser gum treatment works. A small amount of light energy from the Periolase Laser is directed through a tiny fiber, which is gently placed in the space, or pocket, betweeen the gum and the tooth. This laser light energy removes the diseased tissue on the inside of this pocket and also kills the bacteria that cause gum disease. The laser light also alters the tartar under the gums making it easier to remove with hand and ultrasonic scalers. After thoroughly deep scaling the teeth, the laser is used again to seal the gum around the tooth, creating a biological "band-aid."
